At the Sow Family Foundation, we believe education is one of the most powerful tools to prevent homelessness and reduce poverty. Yet many children in Austin face barriers caused by housing instability, food insecurity, and limited access to resources.

The Challenge

Students experiencing economic hardship often struggle to stay engaged in school when they lack stable housing, school supplies, mentorship, or family support. Without these critical supports, many fall behind academically and face greater risks of long-term poverty and housing instability.

Our Solution

The Sow Family Foundation addresses these challenges by expanding access to education and providing long-term support for underserved youth and single-mother households.

We focus on:

Supporting Students
Through our Backpacks of Hope program, we provide backpacks, school supplies, and essential resources that help students begin the school year prepared and confident. We also offer mentorship, enrichment opportunities, and academic support to keep students engaged and on track.

Breaking the Cycle
Education is one of the most powerful forms of prevention. By supporting youth early, we help reduce the risk of future homelessness and equip young people with the tools to pursue college, careers, and financial independence.

Empowering Families
Through our two-generation approach, we support single mothers by helping them return to school through scholarships and childcare support, creating stronger foundations and generational stability for their families.
